How to Apply for Marriage License

Following are the steps to obtain a Marriage License in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts:

  • You may file your intention anywhere in the State, however, it is suggested that you file in the city or town where you are getting married.
  • Both parties must appear together to file and show ID’s.
  • The fee for filing the intention in Danvers is $30.00.
  • There is a three day waiting period from the day you file your intention to the day the license can be issued.  (Exception:  The 3 day waiting period can be waived with a Court Order signed by a Massachusetts Judge).
  • The license is good for 60 days from date of issue.
  • Medical Certificates are no longer necessary.
  • Intentions can be filed any time during normal business hours:  M-W 8:00 – 5:00; Th. 8:00 – 7:30; F 8:00 – 1:30
  • You will be mailed a Certified Copy once the Officiant files the License with this office.
