Liberty Street Reconstruction Project

MassDOT Press Office: 857-368-8500
Traffic Advisory: Danvers – Liberty Street Reconstruction Project
Liberty Street Causeway Closure Extension from August 18 To August 24, 2016 (weather permitting) For Site Preparations Prior To Final Paving Scheduled for August 22 and August 23
DANVERS – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced that the closure of the Liberty Street Causeway has been extended from August 18 to August 24, weather permitting, to accelerate the completion of certain roadway work to prepare for final paving operations.
The final Liberty Street paving work is scheduled for August 22 and August 23, weather permitting.
This additional period of closure will allow for the project to be completed weeks ahead of schedule and prior to the Riverside School opening.
During that time, the contractor is scheduled to complete the following items prior to final paving:
• New concrete sidewalks and granite curbing installation at the High Street intersection
• Installation of traffic loop detectors at the High Street intersection
• Guardrail and fencing installation along the causeway
• Raise all gas gate castings (by National Grid)
Liberty Street, Jersey Lane and the Route 35 intersection will reopen upon completion of this work. If weather delays the scheduled work, the reopening of the entire road would be expected to occur during the weekend of August 27.
MassDOT encourages drivers to seek alternate routes when possible to avoid delays. Drivers that must travel through the affected areas should expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution while traveling through the work zones and along the detour routes.
The work is being completed as part of an $8 million reconstruction project designed by the Town of Danvers and constructed by MassDOT.

Liberty Street Causeway to Close to Traffic April 18th

The 2016 construction season will commence on April 18, 2016 with the full closure of the Liberty Street Causeway to all traffic at approximately 6:00 AM. This closure will be limited to the over-water section of the roadway from just south of Bunky’s Marina to just north of Popes Landing. The closure will remain in effect from April 18 to August 18. This will be the second and last road closure for the construction project.

During the closure, through traffic on Liberty Street will be detoured to Rt-128 via High Street (Rt-35) and to Elliot Street (Rt-62). Two way traffic will remain on Liberty Street to the north and south of the closure limits.

All underground utilities will be removed from the temporary bridge and permanently installed under the roadway during the closure. The southern portion of Liberty Street from the causeway to the Port Corner will be reconstructed. New drainage, concrete sidewalks, and granite curbing will be put in place. The Port Corner will receive new traffic lights and improved geometry.

The project is scheduled for final completion on November 1, 2016.
