Water Service Line Coverage Warning
Wednesday, March 4, 2015

Solicitations by mail have been received in Danvers from companies offering to sell water service line coverage. The correspondence states that homeowners are financially responsible for the exterior water service line buried underground on their property. The resident is instructed to purchase what amounts to an insurance policy that would provide coverage in the event that the water service line was to fail.   While the maintenance of this line is the responsibility of the property owner, the Town of Danvers does not require residents to purchase this type of coverage.

The Danvers Police Department would strongly discourage members of the public from agreeing to unsolicited offers: including the selling of products, and the servicing or repairing of homes and vehicles. If a member of the public is approached with these offers and believes them to be fraudulent, they are encouraged to contact the police department at 978-774-1212.

Citizens are reminded that while the majority of businesses are trustworthy and dependable, there are still businesses that are deceptive and unethical. Homeowners should check with the Better Business Bureau and the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, Consumer Complaint Division, before allowing any company to solicit your business.
